MSB issues sharp response to map gifted by Greece: 'A nostalgic delusion'

The Ministry of National Defense made statements during its weekly briefing regarding the map gifted to Bartholomew by Greek Chief of General Staff Dimitrios Choupis during his visit to Istanbul.

The Ministry stated that such initiatives are considered an instrumentalization of the past to send messages.

Choupis, who attended the 18th Conference of Balkan Countries' Chiefs of General Staff held in Istanbul on May 27, visited the Ecumenical Patriarchate and gifted Bartholomew a map of Thrace showing the ancient Hellenic geography.

This situation was interpreted as an attempt to sow discord between the Turkish and Greek peoples.

Ministry sources stated, "The instrumentalization of the past to send messages is nothing more than a nostalgic delusion. We invite those who try to disrupt the constructive approaches put forward by the leaders of the two countries and who attempt to build political careers by sowing discord between the Turkish and Greek peoples to abandon these nostalgic delusions and to see, understand, and accept the facts."

UKRAINE-RUSSIA TENSION

Following Ukraine's drone attack on Russia, Turkey's defense preparations also came to the agenda. The Ministry stated that the Turkish Armed Forces are closely monitoring the changes in the nature of warfare and are strengthening their defense infrastructure with domestic and national high-tech weapon systems.

AID ACTIVITIES TO SOMALIA

Responding to claims that Turkey delivered Atak and General Purpose Helicopters to Somalia, the Ministry announced that training, aid, and advisory activities aimed at ensuring security and stability in Somalia are continuing within the scope of agreements between the two countries. In this context, it was stated that standard security measures are being taken to prevent terrorist activities in the region.
