Municipality won twice by CHP passes to AKP

A notable judicial decision has been reached regarding the acting mayorship process in the Yüreğir district of Adana. Following the suspension of Yüreğir Mayor Ali Demirçalı by the Ministry of Interior on April 21, citing a sentence he received in a case, two elections were held in the municipal council.
In the first acting mayorship election, CHP candidate Cafer Boyraz won the election with 21 votes, while AKP candidate Tarık Özünal remained at 15 votes. Upon AKP's objection to the result, the file was taken to the judiciary.
The Adana 2nd Administrative Court issued a stay of execution following the application and ruled for the renewal of the acting mayorship election. Following this decision, the ballot box was set up for the second time in the Yüreğir Municipal Council on July 31.
The result did not change in the second election; CHP candidate Cafer Boyraz was re-elected as acting mayor. However, the AKP objected to this election result as well and took the matter to the judiciary once again.
With the final decision of the Adana 2nd Administrative Court, it was ruled that the Yüreğir acting mayorship position be given to AKP's Tarık Özünal. Thus, despite the CHP candidate emerging first from the ballot box in two separate elections, the acting mayorship has passed to AKP's Özünal.
