Müsavat Dervişoğlu becomes candidate for IYI Party chairmanship

In the IYI Party, following calls for resignation after the local elections, Chair Meral Akşener announced in a statement today that she will not be a candidate at the Congress.

Following Akşener's statement, IYI Party Parliamentary Group Deputy Chair and İzmir MP Müsavat Dervişoğlu said in a post on X, "I hereby submit to the information and appreciation of the public that I will be a candidate for the Chairmanship at the Elective Extraordinary Congress to be held on April 27, 2024, and I offer my respects."

ANNOUNCED HIS CANDIDACY

Dervişoğlu's post is as follows:

"Our Chair, Ms. Meral Akşener, has made a statement regarding our Extraordinary Congress to be held on April 27, 2024, and has announced to the public that she will not be a candidate, following a comprehensive evaluation.

I respect her decision, as always.

It is not possible for me to remain indifferent to developments at such a critical threshold and to stay away from the responsibility that history has placed upon me.

In order to ensure that the process is carried out in accordance with our procedures and traditions;

First of all, I will visit our Founding Leader and family elder, Ms. Meral Akşener, who has put in great effort since the day our party was founded to bring it to where it is today, to receive her blessing, and then I will hold consultations with our valuable fellow party members, our organization members, and our esteemed deputies who represent our party in the TBMM.

I pray to Almighty God that the decision we have made will bring goodness to our country, our nation, and our party.

I hereby submit to the information and appreciation of the public that I will be a candidate for the Chairmanship at the Elective Extraordinary Congress to be held on April 27, 2024, and I offer my respects."

NUMBER OF CANDIDATES RISES TO 3

Following the decision for a Congress, Günay Kondaz and Mehmet Tolga Akalın had announced their candidacies for the chairmanship.

With Müsavat Dervişoğlu also becoming a candidate, the number of candidates in the party has risen to 3.
