Müsavat Dervişoğlu on presidential elections: 'There is no difference from violating the Constitution'

İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu made important statements regarding the current agenda on NOW Haber. 

Speaking about the discussions surrounding President Erdoğan's candidacy, Dervişoğlu stated that Erdoğan cannot be a candidate again under the framework of the Constitution, drawing attention to Article 101 of the Constitution.

DERVİŞOĞLU'S EMPHASIS ON THE CONSTITUTION

Emphasizing that his stance on this issue is clear, Dervişoğlu said, "Like Süleyman Demirel, I carry the Constitution in my pocket. Article 101 of this Constitution clearly states that Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan cannot be a candidate again." Criticizing the inclusion of Erdoğan in public opinion polls alongside other candidates, Dervişoğlu said, "This means preparing the ground for Erdoğan to become a candidate again by violating the Constitution."

'THE OPPOSITION MUST ALSO BE CLEAR ON THIS ISSUE'

Stating that the opposition must also display a clearer stance against the violation of the Constitution, Dervişoğlu said, "If some are making political maneuvers to make Erdoğan's candidacy a subject of discussion, this is unacceptable in terms of the Constitution. If the Constitution is still in force, Erdoğan's name must be kept out of these discussions." Expressing that CHP Chairman Özgür Özel should also take a similar stance, Dervişoğlu said, "It is the constitutional responsibility of the opposition to keep Erdoğan out of the discussion."

'THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE FROM VIOLATING THE CONSTITUTION'

Stating that the violation of the Constitution should not be overlooked for President Erdoğan to be a candidate again, Dervişoğlu said, "There is no difference between Erdoğan violating the Constitution to become a presidential candidate and taking steps to ensure his candidacy." Arguing that the opposition failed to show sufficient reaction to Erdoğan's third-term candidacy in the past, Dervişoğlu emphasized that the same mistake should not be repeated this time.

'WE WILL PUT UP THE NECESSARY FIGHT'

Dervişoğlu stated that they will continue the constitutional struggle against Erdoğan's candidacy and added: "We will put up the necessary fight regarding this issue. The Constitution is more important than winning elections. We must never allow the violation of the Constitution."
