IYI Party Eskişehir Deputy Nebi Hatipoğlu, who made headlines by advocating for an alliance with the AKP and MHP in the local elections and criticizing the CHP, has resigned from his party citing "deep differences of opinion."
According to a report in Cumhuriyet, party sources stated that Hatipoğlu's resignation was not a surprise, noting that "he held views closer to the AKP." Some party members remarked, "We have officially gifted a deputy to the People's Alliance. The team that determined the deputy candidates should be questioned."
While it is argued that Hatipoğlu "was included in the candidate list because he was wealthy," the deputy lists have also been opened up for debate once again. Some figures, who claim that "the lists were determined not based on effort and Turkish nationalism, but on wealth," believe that this has alienated many party members of nationalist origin.
