'New constitution' traffic begins between Kurtulmuş and Özel: 'If we are going to abide by the constitution, let's change it'

Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş had announced in his statement at the April 23 Reception that he would meet with all political parties that have a group in the TBMM regarding a new constitution.

Kurtulmuş began his meetings on a new constitution by visiting CHP Chairman Özgür Özel.

Kurtulmuş started his visits regarding a new constitution and amendments to the rules of procedure with the CHP Group.

The visit, which began at 11:30, lasted approximately 50 minutes.

Following the meeting, Kurtulmuş and Özel made statements.

"WE WILL FIND A WAY TOGETHER"

Kurtulmuş stated the following:

"We will also visit the other chairmen; we will find a way together. We will mature the constitutional proposals and negotiate them at the opening of the Parliament in the coming period. We will also meet with parties that do not have a group. The Parliament will make the decision."

"IF WE ARE GOING TO ABIDE BY THE CONSTITUTION, LET'S CHANGE IT"

CHP leader Özel conveyed the following:

"I said that there should be an open negotiation environment. Politics cannot be insensitive to the public's agenda. Even if I am the chairman, I cannot give an answer in principle without consulting with my party's officials. We will evaluate the Speaker's assessment with our group. If we are going to abide by the constitution, let's change it. A good one was made last time too, but the constitution that was made was not abided by. We conveyed our sensitivities on this matter. If we are not going to abide by the constitution, what difference does it make if we make a new one or not?"
