New crisis in CHP: A new move following the 'absolute nullity' administration's expulsions!

Following the expulsion moves within the Republican People's Party (CHP), it is being discussed that the 'absolute nullity' administration, which has seized control of the assembly and party management, is now preparing to take action to restructure provincial presidencies.

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, allegations that there will be changes in management in some provinces in the near future and that some provincial chairs may be expelled have fueled debates within the party. It is stated that the changes planned in several strategic provinces are intended to send a message to other provinces.

Some provincial chairs have expressed that they have received various warnings due to the support they have given to current Chairman Özgür Özel, and that they have been threatened or pressured because of their social media posts or statements. It is noted that circles close to the administration are searching for alternative names to replace the current chairs.

One provincial chair summarized the process as follows:

“They are looking for alternative provincial chairs. Even if they find them, the person they find cannot find people to form a team. The CHP is not a party to be managed through appointments and expulsions like the AKP. The base will not accept this.”

Sources close to the current administration, however, claim that approximately 50 provincial chairs are in contact with them but are hesitant to provide open support due to pressure, and they emphasize that there will be no problems in the provinces.

These developments have caused serious discomfort within the party base. The prominence of phrases such as “Free Provincial Presidency” on some social media accounts recently has also drawn attention. Provincial chairs state that members are reacting strongly to what is happening in the party and that demands for resignation are increasing.

Provincial chairs who are critical of the administration report that they are calling on members who want to resign to “Stay here and fight instead of leaving the party.” Criticisms that the party bylaws and legal framework are being ignored are frequently voiced.

While it is recalled that 74 provincial chairs recently published a joint declaration to support Chairman Özgür Özel, many chairs say, “Even if the headquarters changes just one chair, the other chairs will react to this situation.” Furthermore, it is noted that rumors regarding the establishment of a new political party in some provinces have begun to spread. In line with these allegations, provincial chairs argue that the current uncertainty must be resolved as soon as possible and demand that the crisis in the party be solved with the words, “There are many people asking us about resigning. Therefore, whatever is going to happen needs to happen as soon as possible.”
