New detention in IMM investigation

Reform Institute Director Mehmet Ali Çalışkan, who was wanted as part of the terror investigation conducted into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, has been detained in Istanbul.

Detentions continue in the terror investigation conducted into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) and its affiliated units. As part of the investigation carried out by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Reform Institute Director Mehmet Ali Çalışkan has also been added to the list of those detained.

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had launched an investigation into IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Deputy Secretary General of the IMM Mahir Polat, Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, and several municipal employees on charges of "aiding the PKK/KCK terrorist organization."

It was reported that Mehmet Ali Çalışkan, for whom an arrest warrant had been issued during the later stages of the investigation, was detained as a result of an operation conducted in Istanbul.

NO MOBILE PHONE FOUND 

It was stated that no mobile phone was found on Mehmet Ali Çalışkan during the detention. Çalışkan was taken to the Istanbul Police Department's Counter-Terrorism Branch at the Vatan Street campus for processing.

While the detention process in the investigation continues, the suspects, including Mehmet Ali Çalışkan, are expected to be referred to the courthouse following their procedures at the police station.
