New development in İmamoğlu's diploma controversy: Claim that 'Istanbul University has made a decision'!

As expectations grow that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu will be a presidential candidate, the investigations opened against him are also drawing attention.

Most recently, it was learned that an investigation has been launched regarding the diploma İmamoğlu received from Istanbul University.

In Turkey, a university degree is a requirement for presidential candidacy. Ekrem İmamoğlu holds a diploma from Istanbul University.

However, the prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into whether his lateral transfer to Istanbul University was conducted in accordance with procedure.

In this context, the prosecutor's office wrote an official letter to the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) requesting an examination of the situation. YÖK subsequently referred the matter to Istanbul University. The university was requested to evaluate the diploma it had issued in the past and reach a decision.

CLAIM THAT A DECISION HAS BEEN MADE

Journalist Nuray Başaran, speaking on the TGRT channel, which is known for its proximity to the government, claimed that Istanbul University has reached an official decision on the matter.

Başaran stated, "A letter has been written by the university stating that irregularities were identified in Ekrem İmamoğlu's lateral transfer."

Abdulkadir Selvi, another figure close to the government, also wrote that the investigation has been completed, that the university will send its report to the Faculty of Business Administration by Monday at the latest, and that the faculty is expected to cancel the diploma in line with the report.

Selvi wrote that the authority to cancel the diploma lies with the faculty and that the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office will also make a decision regarding the diploma investigation.
