New move from the Kılıçdaroğlu camp ahead of CHP group meeting

The uncertainty surrounding the weekly Tuesday group meeting held by the Republican People's Party (CHP) in Parliament continues. Following the authority dispute between Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was appointed to the CHP leadership by a court decision, and the current Group Chairman Özgür Özel, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), Numan Kurtulmuş, sent an official letter to the party administration yesterday. The letter inquired whether the CHP group meeting would be held this week.

According to information obtained, the Kılıçdaroğlu administration informed the Speaker of the Parliament in its response that they have no request to hold any group meeting for today.

WHAT DID NUMAN KURTULMUŞ SAY?

Recent developments within the CHP have led to a lack of clarity regarding internal party debates and representation in Parliament. In particular, with the appellate court's decision to annul the party convention results and the subsequent changes in duties, the question of who will preside over the group meeting has become the party's main agenda.

TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, in his statement on the matter, had said: “The Grand National Assembly of Turkey cannot place itself in the position of a court. The Republican People's Party must resolve this issue within the framework of its own internal dynamics and institutional structure and eliminate the problem. We will write to the CHP leadership to request the resolution of this contradiction. The Speaker of the Parliament does not have the authority, nor is it its duty, to take ex officio action in future debates and contradictions.”
