Numan Kurtulmuş and Özgür Özel meet: Emphasis on articles 6 and 7

Political contacts at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey continue without slowing down. As part of his ongoing meetings with political parties, Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş most recently visited CHP Chairman Özgür Özel at his office in Parliament. The meeting focused on the recently completed report of the National Solidarity and Brotherhood Commission.

Following the meeting, both figures appeared before the press. Numan Kurtulmuş stated that the commission's report was an exemplary effort that brought all parties together, noting that sections 6 and 7, in particular, would be addressed as a priority in the General Assembly. Kurtulmuş said, "The concrete proposals expressed especially in sections 6 and 7 will be addressed by the political parties, and legislative activities will begin in the General Assembly of our Parliament. I hope that the spiral of terror and violence will be left behind."

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel recalled that the process of participating in the commission had been widely debated and was a sensitive stage for his party. During the meeting, Özel stated: "It is important that articles 6 and 7 of our report are implemented without delay and in tandem. Article 7 concerns steps toward democratization. We are talking about a process that is intertwined, not sequential. When this process succeeds, Turkey will be rid of the problem of terrorism, and it is important to respect judicial decisions, Constitutional Court rulings, and the rule of law, for non-custodial trials to be the norm, and for the very important democratization steps written in the report to be taken as soon as possible. This is the essence and spirit of this report. As the Speaker also expressed, this is the assurance that this Parliament gives to one another. When this process succeeds in this way, there will be no losers."

It was stated that the commission's joint report consists of 7 sections and includes various solution proposals and democratization steps. Following this contact between political parties, all eyes have turned to the General Assembly. Officials expect concrete progress on the topics agreed upon in the report to gain momentum through parliamentary work.
