The Democrat Party (DP) has announced that it will withdraw from the National Unity, Solidarity and Democracy Commission established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) if the commission decides to meet with Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK. DP Chairman Gültekin Uysal announced this decision to the public through a written statement.

"TO PROTECT THE CONSCIENCE AND SOVEREIGNTY OF THE TURKISH NATION"

Uysal explained the reason for the DP's participation in the commission as a responsibility to protect the conscience and sovereignty of the Turkish nation. Stating, "We took part in this commission with the obligation we received from our nation, in order to represent the conscience of the Turkish nation," Uysal noted that the DP will always be prepared against threats to the unity of the Republic of Turkey.

"WHAT THE PKK COULD NOT ACHIEVE IN 40 YEARS, THE AKP-MHP PARTNERSHIP HAS ACHIEVED"

Using harsh language in his statement, Uysal said, "What the PKK terrorist organization could not achieve in 40 years, the AKP and MHP partnership has achieved! Terrorist Öcalan has been made the sole legitimate representative of our citizens of Kurdish origin by the AKP and MHP." Uysal emphasized that he objects to Öcalan being presented as the representative of the Kurdish people.

"DECISION TO WITHDRAW AGAINST A MEETING WITH ÖCALAN"

Uysal expressed his reaction to a potential decision to meet with Öcalan in the commission as follows: “If the commission decides to go to the feet of the terrorist leader, we declare that we will withdraw from the commission. This would be a decision like going to the feet of a traitor.” Uysal stated that following such a decision, the DP would withdraw from the commission and that they are declaring this position.

"WE OBJECT TO HIM BEING PRESENTED AS THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE KURDISH PEOPLE"

Opposing the portrayal of Öcalan and the PKK as the sole legitimate representatives of the Kurds, Uysal continued: “We object to the leader of an organization that has massacred thousands of our citizens, killed our soldiers, police, teachers, and even babies with terrorist acts for forty years, being made a patron of the Kurdish people and presented as their legitimate representative.”

"DISRESPECT TO NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY AND CONSCIENCE"

Uysal concluded his statement by targeting the AKP-MHP alliance: “The AKP and MHP are trying to make the PKK and Öcalan the representatives of the Kurdish people, disregarding the survival of the Turkish nation. This is a disrespect to national sovereignty and conscience." Uysal stated that their stance is a struggle against the political calculations carried out by this alliance and other parties supporting it.

Finally, defining this stance of the DP as a declaration of struggle and determination, Uysal said: “Our stance to withdraw from the commission following a decision that would cause damage to national sovereignty and injury to the national conscience is a declaration of the struggle we will continue against the process carried out by the AKP-MHP-DEM and PKK.”
