Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel spoke by phone with dental student Dilara Çiçek, who had applied to serve at the World Dental Congress to be held in Istanbul from September 12-15, but whose application was rejected due to her headscarf.
Özel stated that what happened was unacceptable and expressed his sadness and reaction regarding the discrimination Çiçek faced.
"I HOPE IT WILL NOT BE REPEATED"
Özel said, "I have always opposed such discriminatory practices since my student years. Even though 30 years have passed since those days, I am deeply saddened that similar discrimination is still occurring. I hope that this experience remains a small and bad memory and that it will not be repeated."
Özel invited Çiçek to the events to be held on September 9 for the 101st anniversary of the founding of the Republican People's Party.
