Özel responds to Bahçeli, who closed the door on early elections! He recalled the past

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel met with Saadet Party Chairman Mahmut Arıkan at his party's headquarters. Following the meeting, the two leaders held a joint press conference. On the agenda were the remarks made by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli regarding early elections.

Stating that there is a significant difference between the positions Bahçeli has taken in the past and today, Özel recalled that Bahçeli had opened the door to early elections at the beginning of the AKP government and used the following expressions:

“Mr. Bahçeli has closed the door to early elections. When Mr. Bahçeli opened the door to early elections, he launched the Justice and Development Party government.”

Continuing his remarks, Özel pointed to a process in Turkey that prevents economic conditions from improving in favor of the citizens.

Özel's statements are as follows:

"He took the country to an early election when the government was at its most difficult period, and at a time when economic measures were starting to show results every day, when citizens would be comfortable and reactions to the government would decrease, and when it was at its lowest point. The Justice and Development Party achieved a result they could not have even imagined, and with all three parties that formed the government falling below the threshold, and with Turkey's most deep-rooted parties falling below the threshold, at a point where only two parties could pass the threshold, the Justice and Development Party captured single-party power 13-14 months after its establishment. On the day Mr. Bahçeli left office, the lowest pension was worth 8 quarter gold coins. Today, it is 2 quarter gold coins. The 6 quarter gold coins in between have flown out of the pensioner's pocket as a work of the Justice and Development Party governments.'

This process was initiated by Mr. Bahçeli's call for early elections. Now, Mr. Bahçeli is closing the door to early elections at a time when the nation is most uncomfortable with this government, when the economic crisis is at its highest point, when the nation's complaints are at their peak, and when poverty, unemployment, and insecurity have reached an unbearable point.

If he opened the door to early elections today, the pensioner would be saved, the minimum wage earner would be saved, the farmer would be saved, the tradesman would be saved, and the civil servant would be saved. But while he was in power, he opened the door to early elections for the AK Party at the most advantageous time, and now he is closing the door to early elections at the most disadvantageous point for the AK Party. What should we say then?

Mr. Bahçeli, we are as you know us. We have become a bit more skilled at breaking stones and distinguishing friend from foe. If someone who acted like that back then is acting like this today, it was already clear that you would not do any favors for the pensioner. In recent weeks, despite everything, we said to Mr. Bahçeli that the three parties forming the New Path group are already the Future, Deva, and Saadet parties. The IYI Party, the DEM Party, and the CHP call this wage a 'misery wage.' But if we, with our total of 47 deputies, decided to save the pensioner from the misery wage, we would be in the minority, but the pensioner would have moved to the majority."
