Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel visited the resistance that began after the Virgin Mary parking lot, which accounts for 60 percent of the revenue of the Selçuk Municipality in İzmir, was transferred to the ministry.

As reported by Cumhuriyet, the CHP leader made statements there, saying, "Do you need this money? Instead of doing the work he is supposed to do, he is seizing the CHP's money so that the Selçuk Municipality cannot provide services. I am making my final warning here. Mr. Erdoğan, you fell from the hearts of the nation on the evening of March 31. But with these actions, you are falling from their eyes."

When asked about the remarks of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who said, "How can the CHP get so many votes, how can it win so many municipalities, and how can it be so bold? To speak openly, we as the AK Party are the cause of this," Özel gave the following response:

"This is a condescending language, one that belittles the nation's decision... In other words, elections are held only for the AKP; if it wins, the AKP wins, and if it loses, the AKP loses. There are no other parties, no other efforts, no other candidates! This is an arrogant language. It is this very language that was punished on March 31."
