Özgür Özel addresses delegates: Do what the street demands

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Candidate Özgür Özel, who will hold the 38th Ordinary Congress on November 4-5, met with party members and delegates in İzmir in front of the CHP Provincial Headquarters.

Making important statements in İzmir, Özel said, "Our congress to be held on November 5 will decide on the chairman and staff who will lead our party in the 100th year of our Republic. This decision will be made by our 1,200 delegates elected from the 4 corners of Turkey."

"I WANT STRONG SUPPORT TO BREAK FREE FROM CHAINS"

Expressing that there have been some discussions about the 38th Ordinary Congress and that these discussions saddened him, Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Candidate Özgür Özel stated, "The name of İzmir, the flagship of the Republic, is also being mentioned. They say İzmir's delegates are soldiers. İzmir's delegates are soldiers, its members are soldiers, we are all soldiers, but we are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal. The common feature of İzmir's delegates, as well as those from Van, Antalya, and Konya, is this: the love of the party and the love of Atatürk flow through their veins. Our delegates do not listen to who whispers what in whose ear, who will make different choices a few months later, or to various relationship-building narratives; they make the decision that needs to be made for the future of this party and the country so that the party does not remain in opposition again, and they stand behind it. Believing that our elected delegates in İzmir and Turkey will do what their conscience and reason dictate, I want strong support from you for them to be free from all prejudices and to break free from chains."

"DO WHAT THE STREET DEMANDS"

Saying that they go to the congress as if they are going to a wedding, Özel said, "Our delegate goes to the barber before going to the congress; if the barber says to him, 'Mr. Chairman, there is a demand for change on the street; it would be good if there is change, if not, we are in trouble,' our delegate does not do what is whispered in his ear, but what he hears with his own ears. I believe in this. We say this to our delegates who will come to Ankara from the 4 corners of Turkey and return home: We are not telling you to do this or that. You will be in Ankara a week from today. You will be back in your hometowns 10 days after that. Before coming to Ankara, ask everyone whose mind, heart, and conscience you trust. In the 100th year of the Republic, for the sake of hope, so that the party does not remain in opposition again, so that the party can stand up, do what the street demands, and pave the way for the party. From now on, while we have infinite respect for the experiences of friends who have served in the party before, you will only see young faces and new faces within the change team."
