Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu visited Hatay, which experienced one of the most severe destructions in the February 6 earthquakes.
"WE WILL FOLLOW THE PROCESS OF HEALING THE WOUNDS"
Stating before the 38th Ordinary Congress of the CHP that he would make his first visit to Hatay if elected chairman, Özgür Özel said the following in his first statement in Hatay:
"Hatay is a few steps behind in healing the wounds after the earthquake. I see Hatay, which the first Chairman of the CHP, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, called 'my personal matter,' as my own matter. We will keep Hatay on the agenda. We will not allow the demographics of Hatay to be disrupted. We will not allow anyone's rent-seeking projects in Hatay. We will follow the process of Hatay getting back on its feet and the healing of its wounds."
"FROM NOW ON, HATAY IS MY PERSONAL MATTER"
Speaking at the CHP Provincial Organization after his statement at the airport, Özgür Özel said the following:
"There was a great lack of coordination in the first days. There was an even greater lack of coordination in Hatay. The houses will not be ready in a year as they promised. 235 thousand houses need to be built, and tenders for 35 thousand houses have been held. 9 out of 10 people from Hatay will still be left on the streets. We are not going to make a symbolic visit to Hatay and leave it at that. It is necessary to keep Hatay on the agenda.
From now on, Hatay is my personal matter. Our parliamentary group will continue its support for Hatay.
We will send our Deputy Chairmen, we will send our party assembly members, we will send our parliamentary group. They must build the earthquake houses quickly, they must keep their promises. We will not allow them to manage until the election and then abandon the work after the election."
HEALTH PROBLEMS IN HATAY
Pointing out that health problems continue in Hatay, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel said:
"Deaths are occurring in hospitals in Hatay because there is not enough technical equipment. There is a problem with childbirth, there is a problem with pregnancy. Our Deputy Chairman responsible for Health, our doctor in the shadow cabinet who follows the Minister of Health, Ms. Zeliha, will follow all of these very closely. My first instruction to her tomorrow will be to form a delegation of our physician deputies to examine the health problems in Hatay. They will come and work here. They will both present it to the Minister of Health and share it with the public. Then, whatever falls to us, we will do our part."
Özel also visited Dikmece Village, which is resisting so that its olive groves are not cut down in Hatay, and supported the protest.
