Özgür Özel's comments on the new constitution and commission: He responds to claims of a 'condition for the release of İmamoğlu'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made statements regarding the constitutional commission debates and recent allegations. Stating that the constitutional commission established at the Palace will only serve the AKP's own work, Özel said, "What comes out of this commission will consist only of the AKP's work." He stated that there is no preparation for a new constitution and that the CHP will not be involved in any bargaining during this process.

CHP'S DECISION NOT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COMMISSION

Özel also denied allegations such as the release of Ekrem İmamoğlu being set as a condition. The CHP Chairman stated that his party would not participate in the constitutional commission, saying, "The commission to be established in Parliament involves a different concept. 

However, for this to be a Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) commission, a legal basis is required," he said.

Özel expressed that an appropriate framework for the constitutional commission has not yet been established, emphasizing that the solution should be reached in the TBMM, in a transparent manner, and in a way that ensures the trust of all segments of society. Touching upon the importance of the trust of sensitive groups, especially families of martyrs, Özel said, "This problem must be solved in Parliament, and while it is being solved, no one should have any doubts."
