Özgür Özel's ultimatum on the commission: 'You cannot make a constitution with those who do not abide by the constitution'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made notable statements regarding the ongoing forest fires, the debate over firefighting aircraft, and the commissions planned to be established in Parliament. His remarks regarding the "commission" debate, which is particularly associated with the resolution process, drew attention.

Özel set forth his approach to the commissions with the following words:

"This commission is not a commission that will draft a constitution. Anyone intending to draft a constitution will not find us by their side. Because you cannot make a constitution with those who do not abide by the constitution."

Özel also criticized the AKP's stance on the constitution-making process, drawing attention to the "qualified majority" requirement in the functioning of any commission to be formed in Parliament:

"WHAT CONSTITUTION ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? I WOULDN'T EVEN LET YOU MAKE MENEMEN!"

The CHP leader reiterated his determination regarding the constitutional process by recalling the harsh expression he used in the past toward President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

"I said it before; I said, 'What constitution are you talking about? I wouldn't even let you make menemen.' We are on the same line. This stance of ours has not changed."

Özgür Özel also touched upon the debates regarding the forest fires continuing across Turkey. He attacked President Erdoğan over the issue of firefighting aircraft, using the following expressions:

"It would be better if Mr. Erdoğan did not open his mouth on this inventory issue. Because he has 14 luxury planes in his own inventory. You cannot live in such luxury and then say there is no money for firefighting aircraft."
