CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş participated in the Youth March from Güvenpark to Anıtkabir as part of the May 19th Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.
Speaking to journalists during the march, Özel made a notable call to AKP youth. Referring to the operations conducted against CHP-run municipalities and the arrest of elected mayors, Özel stated:
"They need to say that it is not right to boast when winning and take the ball away when losing. If they do this, the AKP will become a democratic and institutional party. Perhaps they will lose the next elections again. But then they will become a party with hopes of governing in the future. Otherwise, they will go down in history as a party that exists when it wins, but attempts a coup and acts as a spoiler when it loses. On this May 19th, I greet all political views, including the young people of the AK Party who are in power today, and I say: Take that ball back from your grandfather, your father, your leader. Do not let them be among those who play when they win and take the ball away when they lose."
