Özgür Özel's remarks on 'Şimşek' and 'local elections': 'If they continue like this...'

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel answered questions of interest during a live broadcast on Now TV following the March 31 local elections.

REACTION TO 'LOCAL PEOPLE'

Özel reacted to Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek referring to the public as 'local people' in an interview. Özel said, "It showed the arrogant and disconnected state of the AKP. He sees himself as an outsider. They view the people in Turkey as subjects. It is a complete palace mentality."

Regarding the criticism that "CHP won the election," Özel replied, "Of course it is our success. Of course our candidates are many, but it wouldn't be right to say we succeeded alone. The nation succeeded. The nation showed a yellow card."

EARLY ELECTION STATEMENT

Speaking on early election claims, Özel said, "I said I would not initiate an early election debate due to the results of the March 31 elections. Now, if you do not hear the voice of the retirees, if you continue to darken the future of the youth, if the nation demands an early election, I would say let's go. If they continue like this, it is near."

Özel announced that they will hold a large rally for retirees in the near future.

MEETING WITH ERDOĞAN

Explaining that he wants to meet with Erdoğan, Özel said the following regarding when the meeting will take place:

"We will convene the MYK for the fourth time today. I have gathered the PM. I will also meet with our former chairmen. We are not a structure where one person makes the decisions. We make joint decisions and consult. I will take the opinions of our chairmen. As a result of this, we will request an appointment according to the President's schedule. I would be happy if he grants the appointment at Çankaya. It could also be at the Parliament. I would not directly prefer Beştepe, but I will not waste this meeting over a debate about the venue. Because the content is more important than the venue."
