Özgür Özel responds to claims of Muharrem İnce's İzmir candidacy!

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visited the family of Yunus Emre Göçer, a motorcycle courier who was struck and killed by the son of the President of Somalia.

Responding to journalists' questions after the visit, Özel made statements regarding the current agenda.

ÖZEL'S RESPONSE TO THE MUHARREM İNCE QUESTION

Özel gave the following response to a question regarding Memleket Party leader Muharrem İnce's request for a meeting:

“When I was going to Germany, Mr. İnce was going to Thessaloniki, if I am not mistaken. We had a phone message exchange.

When he wanted to meet with the Mayor [Ekrem İmamoğlu], the Mayor and I had communicated with each other. Afterwards, Mr. Muharrem said, 'I would like to come for a visit.'

I said, 'We will meet when I return to Turkey.' There has been no appointment set yet, but it is unthinkable to turn down a meeting request from Mr. Muharrem İnce, someone with whom we have engaged in politics in the past and who has undertaken important duties in the country. Other than that, we have not discussed anything regarding the scope.

Mr. İnce also wants to make a courtesy visit, and he is saying again today in his own statement that it is important to support the Mayor in Istanbul.

This is an attitude that everyone who loves Istanbul and loves Turkey should adopt anyway. Once the appointment request is finalized and we have scheduled it, we will inform you as well.”

“NOTHING OF THE SORT WAS EVER DISCUSSED”

Upon being reminded of the claims that İnce would be nominated in İzmir, Özel said, “Nothing of the sort was ever discussed. There was no such basis. He only had a message saying, 'I would like to visit you.'”
