Özgür Özel responds to Davutoğlu and Babacan: 'They also performed their opposition quite effectively'

DEVA Party Leader Ali Babacan, while evaluating the possibility of an alliance with the AKP during a program he attended on Akit TV, used the CHP as an example with the phrase "even." Babacan stated, "We have sat down and worked even with the CHP. We have done everything. Of course, we would not have a categorical stance, but let this not be misunderstood. As of today, I do not see a will for change in Mr. Tayyip and the AKP's management cadre."

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel responded to Babacan's words in a statement to T24. Özel noted that conservative voters had experienced trauma with the CHP in the past, but that this situation has now been overcome. Özel stated that he evaluated Babacan's remarks from this perspective. Özel also emphasized that Babacan has been performing his opposition.

DAVUTOĞLU ALSO SPOKE

Future Party Leader Ahmet Davutoğlu answered questions from İlker Karagöz on NOW TV. When asked, "What would your response be if you were offered the position of Vice President?" Davutoğlu replied, "I know the state; we can compare 2016 with today. I would look at the job description. Reforms need to be made in all areas: law, economy, and politics. If the country's economy is at the point of bankruptcy and the state needs to be restored, I would not hesitate at all."

Özel interpreted Davutoğlu's statements in a similar vein to Babacan's words, positioning Davutoğlu not as "the big brother or boss of the opposition, but as a strong component of the opposition on the side of democracy."

Özel also evaluated the CHP's situation on the ground and the approach of its voter base. Özel stated that the difficulties experienced in the past by the Republican People's Party (CHP) in the eyes of conservative and center-right voters have been largely overcome. He further expressed that the "Table of Six" alliance in the last elections, the search for inter-party alliances, and the post-election processes must be managed correctly.

Özel continued his words as follows: "I position the CHP not as the big brother or boss of the opposition, but as one of its strong components on the side of democracy. We aim to act together with all democrats without acting like a big brother or boss to anyone. No one is obligated to us, and we are not obligated to anyone, but we must listen to the voice of the nation."
