Özgür Özel reveals the government's minimum wage plan

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made assessments regarding the minimum wage and the economic situation during the first group meeting of the new legislative year. Özel shared the minimum wage rate the government is considering with the public.

Özel stated that the government plans to increase the minimum wage by 20 percent and keep this level fixed throughout the year. Özel said, "You are preparing to do something similar to what you did last year, that is, not to give the real inflation, not even the TUIK inflation, but to give the planned, targeted inflation as a raise. They intend to increase the minimum wage by 20 percent without shame or hesitation."

THE GAP BETWEEN REAL INFLATION AND MINIMUM WAGE

Drawing attention to the chasm between inflation and the minimum wage, Özel continued his remarks as follows: "Those who brought the nation to this state by increasing the minimum wage by 30 percent last year while inflation was at 44 percent are now intending to take steps with the same ill intent."

ERDOĞAN'S NATIONAL INCOME STATEMENT CRITICIZED

Özel also reacted to President Erdoğan's statement on per capita income. Evaluating Erdoğan's claim that "per capita income is 17 thousand dollars," Özel stated the following:

The minimum wage is 22 thousand liras, 6 thousand 370 dollars annually.

The pension is 16 thousand 800 liras, 4 thousand 860 dollars annually.

The orphan's pension is 1 thousand 200 dollars annually.

The old-age pension is 1 thousand 550 dollars.

The disability pension is 1 thousand 240 dollars annually.

Özel criticized this calculation method, stating that even if 30 million people came together, they would not be able to reach the 17 thousand dollars figure announced by Erdoğan.
