Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel reacted on social media to the statement by President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan that the lieutenants who took an oath with swords at the Military Academy graduation ceremony would be dismissed from the army.
Özel stated that it was wrong to use the lieutenants' support for their eternal commander-in-chief, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, for political calculations, and expressed that this move was "neither political, moral, nor conscientious." Pointing out that Erdoğan waited 8 days to give this reaction, Özel stated that he found the decision in question "significant."
The post by CHP leader Özgür Özel is as follows:
"Waiting 8 days to think and then giving this reaction is very significant. I condemn the use of newly graduated lieutenants from the Military Academy, who stood by their eternal commander-in-chief Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, for political calculations. You cannot sacrifice the futures of brilliant young people for your polarizing politics in the hope of stopping your political decline. This is neither moral nor conscientious. This move is political, but it is misplaced and unjust. Our nation will not forget or forgive this. Give it up!"
