Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel delivered important messages regarding his party's political future in Turkey during his speech at the Swiss Social Democratic Party Congress. In his speech, which he delivered in German, Özel drew attention to Turkey's geostrategic importance and the growing concerns regarding democracy and security.
Expressing his satisfaction at being in a country where agreements that left their mark on Turkey's modern history, such as the Treaty of Lausanne and the Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits, were signed, Özel conveyed the greetings of Istanbul Mayor and presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, as well as those of imprisoned mayors.
Touching upon Europe's perspective on Turkey in his speech, Özel said, "Those looking at Turkey from Europe see a country facing a democracy crisis. However, there is also a Turkey that possesses a strong security capacity in military terms." Özel stated that these two different landscapes raise the question of "Democracy or security?" among European friends.
CHP WILL COME TO POWER
Özel expressed his belief that his party will come to power in the first elections with the following words: "We know that the CHP will come to power in Turkey. Public opinion polls show that we are emerging as the leading party. We see our people's belief in democracy at the large rallies we organize every week in different cities and various districts of Istanbul."
Emphasizing that democracy is a fundamental issue not only for Turkey but for the entire world, Özel drew attention to the importance of global solidarity. He concluded his words by saying, "We know that if we stand in solidarity, authoritarianism will collapse, and if we fall apart, authoritarianism will prevail."
