CHP Chairman Özgür Özel attended the opening ceremony of the Dr. Nurten-Lütfü Yüksel Alzheimer's Center, built by the Odunpazarı Municipality in Eskişehir. Speaking at the ceremony, Özel touched upon both the importance of the center for the city and made evaluations regarding the political process that the CHP is going through.
Odunpazarı Mayor Kazım Kurt stated that they have fulfilled the promise made before the election regarding the Alzheimer's Center, adding that the facility is an important living space that reflects the municipality's understanding of social municipalism.
In his speech at the podium, Özel stated that Turkey is in a "difficult process" and argued that CHP-run municipalities continue to produce services despite the pressures. Özel said, "In such difficult days, the struggle, the struggle on the streets, the struggle in the squares is extremely valuable."
Stating that the newly opened center will respond to an important need for Alzheimer's patients and their families, Özel noted that the facility has six separate activity areas, 41 rooms, and a capacity of 108 beds. Özel said that this is a facility that "will meet an important need in Eskişehir, not just for show."
Thanking Nurten and Lütfü Yüksel, whose names were given to the center, Özel stated that Lütfü Yüksel was a businessperson who turned what he earned in Eskişehir into investments for the city, and that Dr. Nurten Yüksel touched the lives of many people throughout her professional life.
At the end of his speech, saying that he draws strength from the city every time he comes to Eskişehir, Özel reiterated his goal of coming to power with the words, "Not in a very long time, but very soon; this time we will come here not as the local government of Eskişehir, but as the chairman of a political party that has taken responsibility in the general government of Turkey."
