YENİ Party is entering a busy period both in its organizational calendar and on the parliamentary agenda. Party leader Özgür Özel chaired a Central Executive Board meeting at the headquarters the other day. The meeting addressed the fund crisis in the stock market, the district congresses starting this weekend, and the new legislative year that will open on October 1.
District chair elections within the party will be held on September 26-27. It was stated that members who registered with the party by August 26 will participate in the process. Party officials emphasized that with this practice, for the first time in terms of political parties, an election will be held where members, rather than delegates, will be the deciding factor.
According to the report by Cumhuriyet, officials assessed the situation by saying, "Of course, official congresses will also be held next week as required by the Law on Political Parties. However, we will present the candidates determined by our members to the delegates at these congresses. The delegates will merely perform a formal procedure."
ÖZEL’S SCHEDULE AND OFFICIAL CONGRESS CALENDAR
It was learned that party executives will follow the district elections in their own constituencies. Özel is expected to first observe the elections in some districts of İzmir, and then attend the elections in the Yunusemre district of his hometown, Manisa. It is stated that Özel will be in Balıkesir and Istanbul on Sunday.
Following the completion of the primary elections to be held with members, the official congresses deemed necessary under the Law on Political Parties are planned to be held with delegates between October 3-6.
Following the congress process, YENİ Party will focus on its preparations for the new legislative year of the Parliament. In this context, Özgür Özel is expected to meet with members of parliament next week to evaluate the topics the party will bring to the agenda in the new term.
According to party officials, the issues to be highlighted in the new legislative term include a wage increase for minimum wage earners before December, measures to be taken against recent price hikes, the fund crisis in the stock market, the Mecca Agreement, and the democratization steps to be taken within the scope of the second 'opening' process called 'Terror-Free Turkey'.
