Parliamentary record of MP who said '500,000 lira salary is not enough for me' revealed

AKP Tekirdağ MP Mestan Özcan, also known in the public eye as the owner of the Özcanlar Köfte brand, drew attention with his recent statement.

"500 THOUSAND LIRA IS NOT ENOUGH" STATEMENT

Mestan Özcan stated that his monthly income, combined with his parliamentary salary and pension, reaches approximately 500,000 lira, and expressed that this income is not enough for him. In his statement, Özcan used the following expressions:

"I am saying it again, we can give it to everyone. I will give you my expenses and my income; go ahead, you try to manage this. I have nothing else to say."

This statement, made at a time when millions of retirees and minimum wage earners in Turkey are trying to get by on low incomes, was intensely debated in public opinion. Özcan's words found wide coverage on social media and various platforms.

Following the statement, the question of how this amount, which corresponds to approximately two years of income for a retiree, is earned came to the agenda. It was stated that the answer to this question is contained in Özcan's activity record at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

According to the shared information, it was observed that Mestan Özcan has not submitted any legislative proposals, nor has he submitted any written or oral parliamentary questions throughout his tenure as an MP. Furthermore, information indicated that he has not made any speeches in parliamentary committees and was not the primary signatory on any research motions.

It was stated that within the scope of parliamentary work, Özcan has only submitted a general debate motion once.
