The Republican People's Party (CHP) Central Executive Board (MYK) met yesterday (January 26) to determine mayoral candidates for the local elections.

Amidst the active hours that lasted until midnight, news of a resignation also came from the CHP.

Ataşehir Mayor Battal İlgezdi, who was not nominated for the March 31 local elections, announced his resignation from the CHP in a statement on his social media account, claiming that a purge process was underway within the party and that figures close to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu were being removed.

While the statements in İlgezdi's resignation message dominated the agenda, journalist Barış Yarkadaş shared breaking news.

Yarkadaş reported that Kılıçdaroğlu called İlgezdi and told him that his decision to resign was 'wrong'.

Yarkadaş noted the following on his social media account:

“KILIÇDAROĞLU CALLED BATTAL İLGEZDİ… The 7th Chairman of the CHP, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, called Ataşehir Mayor Battal İlgezdi, who resigned from his party yesterday with a scathing statement, and told him that he “did not find the resignation decision correct and that this attitude harms the CHP””
