The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) is facing intense speculation over whether it will field a candidate in Istanbul for the March 31, 2024, local elections, especially after Başak Demirtaş, the wife of Selahattin Demirtaş, stated, "If the people want it, and our party deems it appropriate, and if we believe it will pave the way for democracy and social peace, we could consider it."
