Özlem Çerçioğlu, who holds the seat of Mayor of Aydın Metropolitan Municipality, resigned from the Republican People's Party (CHP) last August to join the AKP, sparking significant controversy with her remarks targeting her former party.

VOTE SHARE DROPPED TO 17 PERCENT

According to a report by Aydınpost, claims have emerged that in polls conducted across the city following her party switch, Çerçioğlu’s vote share has fallen to 17 percent. Following these results, it is alleged that Çerçioğlu dismissed several managers at the Aydın Municipality Service Network (AYBA) office.

Statements made by the CHP have further escalated the tension. CHP Aydın Deputy Süleyman Bülbül argued that the polls, which were allegedly commissioned by circles close to Özlem Çerçioğlu, contain manipulation, and he used very harsh language. Bülbül stated, “A poll was supposedly conducted in Aydın... and the usurper of the national will, AKP member Özlem Çerçioğlu, is supposedly winning Aydın! Look at the lie! If the person in the yellow building, who cannot even go out on the street, reaches 20 percent, I will resign from my deputyship!”

Bülbül also argued that the actual vote shares on the ground are much lower, accusing Çerçioğlu and her new team of engaging in perception management. He continued his reaction with the words, “While they spend their working hours with the slanders of conspirators, usurpers of the national will, and those who lick bones from behind the cover, it seems the poll was conducted on the 7th floor of the yellow building! Everything has its time and place! The ballot box is approaching... and so is the law...”
