Following the local elections on March 31, 2024, it has been suggested that discussions will begin within the Republican People's Party (CHP) regarding which name will be nominated for the 2028 Presidential election.
According to a report by Gazete Duvar; some politicians within the CHP believe that if Ekrem İmamoğlu wins Istanbul without an alliance, he will be the favorite Presidential candidate.
Another name expected to come to the agenda is Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş.
It is claimed that Yavaş, who is expected to win the election in Ankara by a wide margin, could also win a majority in the municipal council. For this reason, it is suggested that Yavaş will also enter the equation as a Presidential candidate.
There are even those who view Yavaş's remarks that he is running for mayor for the last time as “an announcement of his Presidential candidacy today.”
Pointing out that Yavaş leads in many polls, political analysts are of the opinion that a new “winnable candidate” debate for the opposition after the election would not be a surprise.
