Preparations for fast-track trial in IMM case: New judge appointments made

The Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) has signed off on an important appointment decision regarding the Istanbul 40th High Criminal Court.

With the appointments made within the scope of the 2025 Judicial and Administrative Justice Decrees of the HSK, new personnel changes have been made for some critical cases in the Istanbul judiciary.

Changes in courts where major cases followed with public interest are heard have particularly drawn attention.

"TWO SEPARATE PANELS" FORMED WITH NEW APPOINTMENTS

The new appointments have led to the formation of "two separate panels" at the Istanbul 40th High Criminal Court. Evaluating this situation, lawyer Hüseyin Ersöz pointed out that one of these panels will exclusively handle the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) case and that, as is the case in major trials with many defendants, uninterrupted hearings will be held in Silivri.

SPECIAL FAST-TRACK TRIAL FOR THE IMM CASE

The IMM case, which includes 402 defendants, including Ekrem İmamoğlu, is among the cases expected to be separated from the court's other routine workload and conducted more rapidly.

The formation of a special panel for this case, which the public is following closely, suggests that the process will be accelerated and that an important judicial process will be concluded more quickly.

CHANGE OF DUTY IN THE Aziz İhsan AKTAŞ FILE

Another significant appointment within the scope of the HSK Decree was the appointment of the prosecutor of the Aziz İhsan Aktaş investigation to the position of Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor of Istanbul.

The prosecutor, who conducted the investigation of the file known to the public as the "Aziz İhsan Aktaş Criminal Organization" (Beşiktaş Municipality investigation), was also one of the names involved in critical indictments such as the examination of Ekrem İmamoğlu's diploma and the corruption investigation into the IMM.
