Primary election for presidential candidate on the horizon in CHP
At the CHP's extraordinary party bylaws congress to be held on September 4-9, demands for determining all candidates, including the presidential candidate, through a "primary election," introducing "term limits" for members of parliament and mayors, increasing the number of Party Assembly (PM) members, and implementing an "equal representation" policy will take center stage.

The CHP party bylaws congress process continues with the work of the bylaws commission, coordinated by Deputy Chairman Meryem Gül Çiftci Binici. While the commission collects suggestions from party organizations, members, legal experts, and political scientists, it is also examining party bylaws from around the world.
PRIMARY ELECTION FOR PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE
According to information obtained from CHP sources, the agenda items that will come to the fore at the bylaws congress will include the determination of the presidential candidate, provincial chairmen, members of parliament, and mayors through primary elections. In addition, the introduction of term limits for members of parliament and mayors will also be evaluated at the congress.
At the bylaws congress, the issue of having the party chairman elected by all party members, thereby establishing the "will of the members," will also be brought to the agenda.
PM MEMBER COUNT TO BE INCREASED, "EQUAL REPRESENTATION" TO BE REQUESTED
Another topic to be discussed at the congress will be increasing the number of members of the Party Assembly (PM), the party's highest decision-making body, by restructuring it to ensure that every province has at least one representative, proportional to its size.
At the CHP bylaws congress, the "equal representation" practice requested by the Women's Branch and Youth Branch headquarters will also be demanded. Aiming to increase the representation of women, youth, and people with disabilities in party organs and candidate lists, the "zipper system" will be presented to the discretion of the delegates.
BYLAWS CONGRESS ANNOUNCEMENT PUBLISHED IN NEWSPAPERS
The announcement for the CHP's bylaws congress was published in newspapers on August 6. According to the announcement, the CHP's bylaws congress will convene at the ATO Congresium on September 6-7-8, 2024, at 10:00 AM to discuss and decide on the amendments to the bylaws.
The congress will begin with an opening, a moment of silence, and the singing of the National Anthem. Subsequently, the Congress Presidential Board will be elected, and CHP Chairman Özgür Özel will deliver the opening speech.
Following this, the congress bylaws commission and program commission will be formed. The report prepared by the commission regarding the amendment of the bylaws will be discussed and voted on. The program will continue with the discussion of the work, goals, and methods to be carried out before the congress.
