The Secularism Assembly has filed a criminal complaint regarding the recent incident where primary school children were taken to clean a mosque as part of the controversial ÇEDES project.
''WE HAVE FILED A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT AGAINST THE OFFICIALS''
In a press statement read by Berkay Çelen, one of the spokespersons for the Secularism Assembly, in front of the Çağlayan Courthouse following the filing of the complaint, it was stated: “Religious references are unfortunately being embedded even into primary education. Although we are aware that no institution in our country is currently functioning at an adequate level in terms of legal bodies and operations, we have just filed a criminal complaint against officials from the Presidency of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Ministry of National Education to reiterate our struggle.”
The statement, which declared, “We will not allow primary school children to be made to clean mosques, nor will we allow our children to be subjected to losing their lives in dormitories run by religious sects and communities,” further added, “We declare once again that we will escalate the struggle for secularism and the struggle for our country in every sphere of life against all these reactionary practices.”

The statement made by the Secularism Assembly is as follows:
“As citizens gathered here, we have just filed a criminal complaint at the courthouse. In this complaint, we have filed charges against the attempt to have children who should be receiving primary education clean a mosque, and we have just completed our filing.
The political power continues its reactionary attacks in every sphere of society without slowing down, and a total assault is being carried out against all the dynamics of the country. Legal institutions are now being rendered dysfunctional in our country, and religious references are unfortunately being embedded even into primary education. Although we are aware that no institution in our country is currently functioning at an adequate level in terms of legal bodies and operations, we have just filed a criminal complaint against officials from the Presidency of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Ministry of National Education to reiterate our struggle. What primary school children should receive is an equal, scientific, and secular education. We will not allow this education to be shaped by religious references.
As the Secularism Assembly, we are speaking out once again against the increasingly frequent reactionary attacks in every sphere of society. We will stand before you with a unified line of struggle against these reactionary attacks. We will not allow primary school children to be made to clean mosques, nor will we allow our children to be subjected to losing their lives in dormitories run by religious sects and communities. We declare once again that we will escalate the struggle for secularism and the struggle for our country in every sphere of life against all these reactionary practices. Take your hands off our children; we will not surrender to this darkness.”
