Prison sentence for DEM Party mayor
Siirt Mayor Sofya Alağaş has been sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison for "membership in an armed terrorist organization."

While the defendant, Sofya Alağaş, who is being tried without arrest, did not attend the final hearing held at the Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court, her lawyers were present.
In his final opinion on the merits, the public prosecutor requested that the defendant be punished.
In their defense, Alağaş's lawyers requested that their client be acquitted of the alleged crime.
Taking into account the manner in which the crime was committed, the means used in the commission of the crime, and the importance and value of the subject of the crime, the court panel decided to sentence the defendant Alağaş to 6 years and 3 months in prison for "membership in an armed terrorist organization."
