Prison sentence for former Beşiktaş Mayor

A verdict has been reached in the "misconduct in office" case opened as part of the investigation into allegations of bribery and irregularities at the Beşiktaş Municipality, which began in December 2022. The hearing held on April 8, 2025, at the Istanbul 31st High Criminal Court was attended by the defendants, who are being tried without arrest, and their lawyers.
SENTENCES ANNOUNCED
According to the report by Zeynep Çakır from Oda TV, the decisions regarding the defendants have been finalized.
Former Beşiktaş Mayor Murat Hazinedar was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison for "misconduct in office." The court also imposed a political ban on Hazinedar in accordance with Article 53 of the Turkish Penal Code. Under this article, defendants lose their right to vote, be elected, and practice certain professions for the duration of their sentences.
Other defendants tried alongside Hazinedar within the scope of the case were also given prison sentences:
Deputy Mayor Hüseyin Avni Sipahi: 2 years and 3 months
Deputy Mayor Rıfat Örnek: 1 year, 10 months, and 15 days
Municipal Council Member Çetin Kırışgil: 1 year, 10 months, and 15 days
Data Preparation and Control Operator Mürvet Günday: 1 year, 10 months, and 15 days
