Prison visit from Ümit Özdağ's 90-year-old mother Gönül Özdağ: 'I am visiting my 64-year-old Ümit'

Zafer Party Chairman Prof. Dr. Ümit Özdağ was visited at Silivri Prison by his mother, Gönül Özdağ, and his sister, Hilal Özdağ. 90-year-old Gönül Özdağ stated that just as she visited her husband at Mamak Prison 62 years ago, she was visiting her son Ümit at Silivri Prison today.

Gönül Özdağ characterized her son's detention as unlawful, stating that her son is standing a "watch of respect" for the homeland, and expressed her belief that justice will one day be served.

Hilal Özdağ also stated that they are certain this unlawful process will come to an end, adding, in the words of their father, “Our Red Apple is science, unity, and peace.”

On behalf of her mother, sister Hilal Özdağ read a written statement:

"Exactly 62 years ago, at the age of 27, with my 2.5-year-old child Ümit in one hand and my second child in my womb, I was waiting at the gate of Mamak Prison in Ankara to visit my husband. Today, at 90, this time my daughter is holding my hand; with my failing eyes and ears that hear little, I am reading to you what is in my mind and heart. At this age, I am visiting my 64-year-old Ümit—who is the lawyer for my third child—at that Silivri Prison where they say 'it gets cold,' and on a truly cold day at that.

"I AM PROUD OF HIM"

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation without jurisdiction regarding a speech my child made in Antalya. This investigation has been unlawful from the very beginning. My child was taken from Ankara to Istanbul in one night at a speed of 190 km/h, solely for the purpose of torment. When they saw they could not keep him inside with the alleged crime, they accused him based on the events in Kayseri, which he was trying to calm down, and used a fabricated report as a basis. Patriots who have seen all of this in the conspiracy cases and previous injustices and lawlessness know why Ümit is being kept inside. My child is also standing a watch of respect for this homeland, for which many martyrs have been given and which has been made a veteran. I am proud of him.

As a retired legal professional, I have great respect for all members of the judiciary who are aware that their robes have no buttons, but I leave those who commit all the injustices and lawlessness in this process, first to the true representatives of justice, in which I am certain will one day be served, and then, as a mother, to God."

When asked a question, Hilal Özdağ said, ''We are certain that this lawlessness will one day end; this is a watch of respect... Let me finish with my father's words: Our Red Apple is science, unity, and peace. This process will end, we are waiting.''
