Proposal for Devlet Bahçeli: Call for 'Mr. Bahçeli to go to İmralı'

Yeniden Refah Party Chairman Fatih Erbakan has reacted to the debates regarding the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission established in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) potentially meeting with PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan. Erbakan stated, 'Since Öcalan cannot come to Parliament, Mr. Bahçeli, who invited him to Parliament, should go to İmralı.'

As debates continue over the potential meeting between the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission established in the TBMM and Abdullah Öcalan, Yeniden Refah Party Chairman Fatih Erbakan has made notable remarks.

Erbakan stated that it would not be appropriate for the commission to go to İmralı, adding, "Mr. Bahçeli should be the one to hold this meeting."

"BAHÇELİ SHOULD GO TO İMRALI"

In a statement made at his party's headquarters, Erbakan said, "As is known, the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission was established in the TBMM to resolve the terror problem that has caused our nation great pain. The issue of a delegation from this commission going to İmralı to meet with Abdullah Öcalan has been occupying the agenda for a long time."

Expressing that they do not find the initiative in question to be correct, Erbakan made the following assessment:

"As the Yeniden Refah Party, we say that it is not appropriate for this commission, which represents the TBMM, to go to İmralı. If a meeting is to be held with Abdullah Öcalan, Mr. Devlet Bahçeli should do it himself. As the person who initiated this entire process, stated that a meeting with Öcalan is necessary, and said that Öcalan's views are very important, Mr. Bahçeli should go to İmralı and meet with Öcalan one-on-one."
