YENİ Party Istanbul MP Namık Tan has issued a statement regarding the arrangement publicly known as the “Mecca Joint Defense Agreement.” Tan requested that the legal status of the arrangement in question be clarified.

In a post on his social media account, Tan asked how the alleged agreement could be valid and how it could be implemented without being submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for approval.

Tan stated that if there is no joint defense agreement, but rather a memorandum of understanding, a protocol, or merely a joint press release, the legal basis for the steps taken must be explained.

In his statement, Namık Tan used the expression, “We reiterate and warn that these actions are a constitutional crime.”

Arguing that the process also carries serious risks in terms of foreign policy, Tan characterized such initiatives as an approach “typical of one-man regimes.”

Addressing allegations that military forces or military capabilities have been dispatched to Yemen, Tan emphasized that it must be clarified whether these claims are true.

According to Tan, if the allegations are true, this would be an indicator of a dangerous trend in foreign policy.
