Ten CHP district municipalities have issued a joint statement alleging that Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu, who joined the AKP after resigning from the CHP, is failing to provide pest control services.
The statement was signed by Bozdoğan Mayor Mustafa Galip Özel, Çine Mayor Mehmet Kıvrak, Didim Mayor Hatice Gençay, Efeler Mayor Anıl Yetişkin, Germencik Mayor Burak Zencirci, Karacasu Mayor Mustafa Büyükyapıcı, Koçarlı Mayor Özgür Arıcı, Kuşadası Deputy Mayor Tahsin Demirtaş, Kuyucak Mayor Uğur Doğanca, and Nazilli Mayor Ertuğrul Tetik.
"PUBLIC HEALTH IS UNDER SERIOUS THREAT"
In the joint statement issued by the district mayors, it was noted that the authority and responsibility for pest control services lie with the Aydın Metropolitan Municipality, and it was stated that the failure to perform this duty has reached a point that threatens public health.
The statement emphasized that leaving citizens to face mosquito and pest problems is unacceptable, noting that the current situation is negatively affecting both public health and quality of life.
DISTRICT MUNICIPALITIES TO TAKE OVER PEST CONTROL SERVICES
The joint statement announced that the pest control service, which is alleged not to be provided by the Aydın Metropolitan Municipality, will be carried out by the CHP district municipalities to ensure that citizens do not suffer.
The mayors included the following statements in their announcement:
"We do not accept our citizens being left alone with a mosquito and pest infestation. Although the authority and responsibility for pest control lie with the Aydın Metropolitan Municipality, the failure to fulfill this duty has become a serious threat to public health. We cannot remain spectators to this negligence, which negatively affects both the health and quality of life of our citizens due to the mosquito and pest infestation."
"STARTING FROM THIS EVENING"
The statement continued by announcing that pest control efforts would be initiated by the CHP district municipalities, adding the following assessment:
"The pest control service, which is not being provided by the Aydın Metropolitan Municipality, will be carried out by the 10 Republican People's Party (CHP) district municipalities starting from this evening to ensure our citizens are not victimized. Public health cannot be surrendered to negligence."
