AKP figure reacts to transfer footage in 5th wave operation against IMM: 'It didn't suit us'
Reactions are growing over the footage captured while 38 people, including 5 CHP mayors, were being transferred for medical checks after being detained in the 5th wave of operations against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM). AKP's Şamil Tayyar stated regarding the footage, 'It did not suit the new Turkey.'

More than 100 people, including the IMM President and CHP's presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, have been arrested to date in the wave of operations against the IMM, which began on March 19.
In the latest wave of operations, individuals including Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün, Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe, Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara, Adana Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar, Adana Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin, IMM Deputy Secretary General Erdal Celal Aksoy, CHP Party Assembly Member Baki Aydöner, and former CHP MP Aykut Erdoğdu were transferred to the hospital for medical checks today after their procedures at the police station were completed.
The footage captured and released this morning during the transfer of the detained mayors to the hospital was likened to the methods used in past KCK and FETÖ operations.

CHP Deputy Chairman Burhanettin Bulut reacted to this footage in a statement on his social media account, saying, "At no period in the history of the Republic has such an explicit law of enmity been applied. Those who target mayors elected by the votes of the people and bureaucrats serving their country as if they were war criminals, and who release these shameful images attempting to discredit them, are trampling on law, justice, and the presumption of innocence. Let it not be forgotten: The law will be needed by everyone one day."

SHARP REACTION FROM AKP FIGURE
Following the footage in question, Şamil Tayyar, one of the symbolic figures of the AKP, also shared his reaction to the situation on his social media account. Stating that Turkey has left behind bad habits, he noted that regardless of how serious the accusations against the CHP mayors may be, allowing this footage to be captured did not suit Turkey:
"The AK Party carried out important, revolutionary reforms that erased all the bad habits of the old Turkey. One of the first things it did upon coming to power was to completely change the penal code and trial procedures. The main goal was to protect personal rights and ensure fair trials. No matter how serious the accusations against them are, allowing this footage to be captured or released did not suit the new Turkey. Continue the struggle, but by the book..."
