Reaction from Ali Babacan regarding Can Atalay: He called on Erdoğan

DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan has called for the release of Gezi prisoner and TİP Hatay MP Can Atalay, who has not been released despite the Constitutional Court's ruling, and for him to take his seat in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan reacted to the failure to implement the release order issued by the Constitutional Court for Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Hatay MP Can Atalay.

Babacan stated, "In a state of law, no one can say, 'I took 52 percent and put it in my pocket, I don't recognize any law.'"

Speaking at his Weekly Evaluation Meeting held at the TBMM, Babacan stated that the decision taken by the Constitutional Court must be implemented immediately, saying:

"In a democratic state of law, elections are of course important, but the law is at least as important as election results. We say that in a state of law, no one can say, 'I took 52% and put it in my pocket, I don't recognize any law.' We say no one can say, 'The people elected me, I will do whatever I want.' If they do, that state is not a state of law. Democracy is of course a system of government where elections are held, but democracy gains meaning through law. A democracy without law only brings chaos.

I demand that Can Atalay take his rightful place under the roof of the Parliament without losing even an hour. A democracy without law means governing according to the whims of those elected; it means indifference. A democracy without law means injustice, poverty, corruption, and loss of reputation in the world.

I invite everyone involved in this process, starting with the President, to immediately fulfill the requirements of the state of law, and I demand that Can Atalay take his rightful place under the roof of the Parliament without losing even an hour."
