Ümit Özdağ reacts to AKP-DEM meeting: 'You are aiming to destroy the state of the Turkish Nation'

DEM Party Mardin Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidate Ahmet Türk, in a speech where he evaluated current issues, responded to claims that meetings were held with the AKP by saying, “We do not have official meetings, but we do talk to names from the Parliament; they also express their discomfort with the policy their party is currently pursuing. But we have no official meeting with Erdoğan.”

"YOU ARE TRYING TO DESTROY THE STATE"

Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ responded to Ahmet Türk's words on X.

Özdağ stated the following:

"We know you are doing it. You are aiming to destroy the state of the Turkish Nation by changing the first 3 articles of the Constitution and Article 66."

WHAT IS IN THOSE ARTICLES OF THE CONSTITUTION?

Articles 1, 2, 3, and 66 of the Constitution mentioned in Özdağ's statements are as follows:

Article 1 – The State of Turkey is a Republic.

Article 2 – The Republic of Turkey is a democratic, secular and social state governed by the rule of law, within the notions of public peace, national solidarity and justice, respecting human rights, loyal to the nationalism of Atatürk, and based on the fundamental tenets set forth in the Preamble.

Article 3 – The State of Turkey, with its territory and nation, is an indivisible entity. Its language is Turkish. Its flag, the form of which is prescribed by the relevant law, is the white crescent-starred red flag. Its national anthem is the "Independence March". Its capital is Ankara.

Article 66 – Everyone bound to the Turkish State through the bond of citizenship is a Turk. The child of a Turkish father or a Turkish mother is a Turk. (Repealed second sentence: 3/10/2001-4709/23 art.)

Citizenship is acquired under the conditions stipulated by law and is forfeited only in cases specified by law. No Turk shall be deprived of citizenship, unless he/she commits an act incompatible with loyalty to the motherland. Recourse to the courts shall not be denied against the decisions and proceedings related to the deprivation of citizenship.
