Reaction to detentions from the Communist Movement of Turkey: 'The despotic regime cannot silence the people!'

Protest demonstrations that began following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu have spread across the country. While a large wave of protests formed on university campuses and in city centers, many people were detained as a result of simultaneous police raids in Istanbul and Bursa. A statement from the Communist Movement of Turkey demanded the immediate release of those detained.

Protest demonstrations that began with the detention of İmamoğlu spread across the country following the announcement of arrest warrants. The protests, which intensified particularly on university campuses and in city centers, continued to grow under the leadership of students.

While simultaneous police raids were carried out on many homes in Istanbul and Bursa this morning, a large number of people were detained. Among those detained are Ahmet Özgür Keskin, a member of the Party Assembly of the Communist Movement of Turkey, and one other member. A statement regarding the detentions came from the Communist Movement of Turkey.

The statement included the following remarks:

"In the house raids that took place in Istanbul this morning, our Party Assembly member Ahmet Özgür Keskin and one other member were detained.

You will not be able to destroy the people's wave of reaction spreading against the despotic regime with a wave of detentions and arrests.

All those detained and under arrest must be released immediately!"
