It has been revealed that the Kolan Hospital in Şişli, mentioned in the newborn scandal, had illegally expanded its facility, leading the CHP-run Şişli Municipality to impose a 31.4 million TL fine and seal off the illegal areas.

A new development has emerged in the Newborn Gang scandal, in which suspects are accused of causing the deaths of at least 12 babies and were found to have threatened a public prosecutor.
According to a report by İsmail Arı from BirGün; the Ministry of Health had revoked the license of Kolan Hospital in Silivri, which was named in the newborn gang indictment and identified as one of the gang's hubs.
The owner of the Silivri Kolan Hospital, Mehmet Nedim Kolan, was an AKP parliamentary candidate nominee for Ağrı in 2018. Kolan, who is affiliated with the AKP, has now been involved in a scandal at his private hospital in Şişli.
BOTH A FINE AND A SEAL
The CHP-run Şişli Municipality determined that the AKP-affiliated Kolan had expanded his hospital in Şişli through illegal renovations. With a municipal council decision dated November 5, 2024, the Şişli Municipality imposed a fine of 31 million 404 thousand TL on the hospital.
Municipal officials determined that, contrary to the hospital's approved project plans, the area appearing as a central garden on the ground floor had been enclosed with a retractable pergola system to expand the cafe area, and that 8 staircases between the ninth floor and the ninth mezzanine floor had been removed, with the floor voids closed off. It was also determined that the AKP-affiliated Kolan, failing to learn lessons from the earthquake disaster, had altered the locations of partition walls on the ninth mezzanine floor. The municipality issued a construction suspension report and sealed the hospital's illegal areas.
