Release of Can Atalay expected: Erkan Baş makes a striking reminder about January 16!
Following the Constitutional Court's (AYM) second ruling of rights violation regarding imprisoned TİP MP Can Atalay and the publication of its reasoned decision in the Official Gazette, the wait for his release continues outside the 13th High Criminal Court. TİP Chairman Erkan Baş stated that while they expect his release, the delay in the decision might be an attempt to adjourn the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) today and postpone Atalay's swearing-in until January 16.

Following the Constitutional Court's (AYM) second ruling of rights violation and the publication of the decision in the Official Gazette, the wait for his release continues outside the 13th High Criminal Court.
"THERE IS AN EFFORT TO ACCUSTOM SOCIETY"
Speaking to Sözcü TV, TİP Chairman Erkan Baş stated that they are expecting his release and said the following:
"We have been expecting his release since May 14. The case referred to as the Gezi Park trial is a political case in its entirety. We believe that all of our friends imprisoned within the scope of that case are being held in prison unjustly and unlawfully. As of May 14, this has been compounded for Can. He should have been released the moment he was elected as a Member of Parliament.
There has been an effort to accustom society to lawlessness until today. People are being sent the message, 'We are the government, we can use this as we please.'
Most importantly, every moment the decision is delayed, the validity of our arguments is revealed once again. We had stated that sending the previous AYM decision to the Court of Cassation was unlawful. The AYM has now confirmed what we said.
"THEY ARE ACTING WITH A TENDENCY TO MAKE HIM WAIT UNTIL JANUARY 16"
Waiting for the reasoned decision was also a move to extend the duration. As of last night, the reasoned decision was published in the Official Gazette. As of this morning, all the court needs to do is convene and fulfill the requirements of the decision, which the AYM has already stated what must be done.
It has been going on for hours. I suspect that the TBMM will close today. It will take a break from its work until January 16. As I understand it, they are acting with a tendency to prevent Can from taking his oath today and to make him wait until January 16. It makes no difference to us."
PARLIAMENT TO GO ON RECESS
Furthermore, following the proposal of the AKP Group and the deliberations on the Omnibus Bill, the TBMM General Assembly will go on recess until January 16, 2024.
