The health condition of Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık, who was arrested as part of a controversial investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), has reached alarming levels in prison. Çalık, who previously underwent treatment for leukemia and lymphoma, has had his health checks increased during his time in prison. According to the results of the tests performed, the possibility of cancer has re-emerged.
LOST 18 KILOS IN PRISON, UNDERWENT ANGIOGRAPHY
Throughout his detention, Çalık was transferred multiple times between Istanbul and Izmir. During this process, he experienced significant weight loss; it was learned that he lost 18 kilos and had to undergo an angiography after falling ill. In his latest examination at the prison hospital, his condition was assessed as "critical" and his release was recommended.
COUNCIL OF FORENSIC MEDICINE REJECTED THE RELEASE REQUEST
Despite the release recommendation from the prison hospital, the Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK) expressed a different opinion and did not find the release request appropriate. Following this, Murat Çalık was transferred back to the hospital, where detailed checks were performed.
As the first bone marrow sample taken from Çalık was not considered sufficient, it was decided to repeat the biopsy, which is a painful procedure. The imbalance in his blood values, the collapse of his immune system, and his past illnesses could be harbingers of a new cancer case.
REPORT PREPARED, SENT BACK TO PRISON
Following the final checks at the hospital, Murat Çalık's medical report was completed and sent to the Council of Forensic Medicine for the second time. However, despite this development, Çalık was transferred back to prison. He was not allowed to see his family during his return to prison.
FAMILY COLLAPSED IN FRONT OF THE HOSPITAL
Upon learning that Murat Çalık would be sent back to prison, his family experienced great devastation in front of the hospital. During the wait, his mother and sister collapsed. Citizens in the area were barely able to calm the family members, who were overcome with tears.
