The Republican People's Party (CHP) Headquarters decided to close the Istanbul Provincial Headquarters building in Sarıyer after Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed as a trustee to the Istanbul Provincial Presidency by a court order, entered the building accompanied by police.
Following these developments, the CHP Bahçelievler District Presidency will assume the duties of the Provincial Presidency in the new term.
After the active moments experienced throughout the day, the area around the CHP İstanbul Provincial Headquarters turned into a scene resembling a battlefield, with police seen preventing entry and exit.
While police officers stationed on the ground floor of the building kept entries and exits under control, it was observed that CHP member Özgür Çelik and party officials were in the office.
GÜRSEL TEKİN COULD HAVE FACED A PRISON SENTENCE
While it was stated that CHP Chairman Özgür Özel will come to Istanbul tomorrow, it has not yet been clarified whether Gürsel Tekin will go to Bahçelievler or elsewhere.
Speaking to Sözcü TV, Tekin's lawyer Barış Demirkuş stated regarding the events: "If Mr. Tekin had not accepted this decision, he could have faced a 6-month prison sentence. If the court order is not complied with, there are criminal sanctions if the plaintiff party files a complaint."
